World of Warcraft Mage Guide

This is a World of Warcraft Mage Guide. If you are looking for ways to make gold please see Valkors Gold Guide. If you are looking for a World of Warcraft leveling guide from 1-70 please see either Horde 1-70 Guide or Alliance 1-70 Guide. Other profession and class guides can be found at Killer Guides.

If you are soloing a mage the best thing to do is get your mage level 14 as fast as you can. Once your mage gets instant cast arcane explosion it's on like donkey kong. What you do is find mobs that are alike in level and stats (mainly hitpoints compared to how much damage you will be producing), pull 3 to 4 at a time and arcane explosion until they are dead. For this to work you want to go more for stamina then intelligence items and have your cold shields up. Make good use of frost nova as well. You will level your mage like a champ using almost the same amount of mana to kill just 1 mob that you would to kill 3-4. Drink some water and repeat. It is also a lot of fun and you can do random tasks around the house while you are drinking. When you get higher levels with your mage you can throw in blizzard and other mob run speed reducing effects, ice block, and pull as many as 8 mobs at a time or more.

When leveling with a mage partner the best thing you want to do is find an elite instance 2-3 levels below you. After the initial agro position each of your mages equal distance apart from the mob. Take turn nuking in sequence with the mages (make sure one of the mages casts a cold spell to slow movement) this way the mob will agro back and forth but it has the same effect as playing monkey in the middle. Neither of the mages will get hit when this is done correctly, it's like having an invisible tank to protect your mage. If you and your partner lack gear to do this, then find a camp of melee enemies or casters that will stay grouped closely together and dual AoE with arcane blast and other spells. You will find you can take a lot of mobs at one time.
